Assurance of God’s Purpose for Our Lives (Romans 8:26-30)
In Christ, we have victory—victory over sin’s guilt, power, and practice; victory over death; and victory through our adoption as God’s children, co-heirs with Jesus. This victory is not just for today, but also for the future. We can look forward to eternity with God in a glorified, resurrection body in a heavenly city filled with God’s presence and people. Our future, brighter than the sun, fills us with expectant hope, even when the road to glory seems long, steep, and difficult.
Help on the Road
We all need help on this journey. When we stall out, when the road gets bumpy, we need roadside assistance. In Romans 8:26-30, Paul assures us that God is actively working to achieve our victory. Let’s explore how God provides the help we need as we travel the road to eternity:
The Holy Spirit Intercedes for Us (Romans 8:26-27)
In times of weakness, when we don’t even know what to pray for, the Holy Spirit intercedes on our behalf. He searches our hearts, knows our needs, and presents a perfect prayer to God the Father. What an amazing truth: the Creator of the universe understands us better than we understand ourselves. We are never alone; God’s Spirit is helping us every step of the way.God Works All Things Together for Good (Romans 8:28)
In verse 28, Paul assures us that for those who love God and are called according to His purpose, everything—good and bad—works together for good. This doesn’t mean that life will always be easy. We will still face challenges, pain, and suffering, but God is actively working through all circumstances to accomplish His purpose in our lives. His purpose is not our comfort, but to form the character of Christ in us. Even through difficulties, God is refining us, building our endurance, and strengthening our faith. The trials we face are part of His master plan to shape us more into the likeness of Jesus.God’s Purpose is Eternal and Unshakable (Romans 8:29-30)
God’s plan for us is eternal. Before time began, God predestined those who would trust in Jesus to be conformed to the image of His Son. He has called us, justified us, and promised to glorify us. God is at work in every moment of our lives, using every situation, every trial, every joy, to make us more like Jesus. And one day, He will bring us into His glorious presence, where we will be completely transformed into the likeness of Christ.
Assurance and Hope
As we journey through life, we can take great comfort in the fact that God is actively at work in our lives. His Spirit is interceding for us, He is using all things to shape us into the image of His Son, and He has promised that He will bring us to glory. We can rest securely in these promises, knowing that God’s ultimate purpose for our lives is eternal glory in His presence.
In the midst of trials and difficulties, we can find hope, knowing that God will never fail in His promises. As we trust Him and remain faithful, He will bring us safely home to Him.
