Better Together
In Genesis chapter eleven, we read that the descendants of Noah, all speaking one language and dwelling in one place, decide to build a tower and a city. Then, beginning in verse 5 we read that "the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of man had built. And the LORD said, ‘Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is only the beginning of what they will do. And nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them.’” (Gen. 11:5,6)
Although God sees fit to confuse the language of this people and scatter them over the earth, there is in God's words an endorsement of what we can do when we are unified and working together. God says of these unified people that "nothing they propose to do will now be impossible for them." When those seeking to serve God are unified, think of what we can accomplish.
In 1 Peter 3:8, Peter tells his readers to "have unity of mind." In Ephesians 4:3, Paul urges his readers to be "eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace."
There is power that comes from the community of believers. That's why God puts Christians together in churches. So, as the writer of Hebrews says in Hebrews 10:24,25, "let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near."
