Be a Willing and Diligent Worker
Long ago, King Solomon wrote, “The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.” (Proverbs 13:4) In many of his Proverbs, Solomon compares the sluggard with the diligent worker. Through repetition, he’s emphasizing the great importance of a strong work ethic.
You can be very talented and intelligent, but your success will likely be very limited if you aren’t willing to work hard. Albert Einstein and Thomas Edison both credited their success to hard work more than genius. Edison said that his process of invention was only “1% inspiration”, but “99% perspiration”. Einstein said, “It’s not that I’m so smart, it’s just that I stay with problems longer.”
Even with disability or average ability, you can succeed if you’re willing to work. If you haven’t learned to work hard, learn. The Apostle, Paul said, “If you don’t work, you don’t eat.” (2Thessalonians 3:10) Mark Twain said, “The world doesn’t owe you a living. It was here first.”
Hard work will fill your wallet and your stomach, but it will also fill your heart. As Teddy Roosevelt said, “Far and away the best prize that life has to offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing.” Heed the lessons from God’s word and his world. Be a willing and diligent worker. -Paul
