Because Jesus Lived Among Us
I don’t know which day of the year Jesus was born. I am not particularly concerned about the specific day, but I am very glad Jesus was born. Because Jesus came into the world as one of us, he walked the earth as the son of a carpenter for 33 years, and that’s a very good thing for several reasons.
Because Jesus was born into this world, we have a demonstration of who God the Father is. Through Jesus, the person of the infinite and all-powerful, invisible God can be known. As Jesus said in John 14:9, “Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.”
Because Jesus was born into the world, we have a perfect example to model our lives after. That’s why Paul could tell the Corinthians to “imitate me as I imitate Christ.” (1Corinthians 11:1)
Because Jesus was born into this world and lived as one of us, we have a merciful high priest interceding for us who has walked in our shoes and who therefore knows our plight. “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.” (Hebrews 4:15)
Because Jesus was born here, faced every kind of temptation we face, and yet lived sinlessly, he could be the perfect sacrifice necessary to free us from sin and give us a hope of heaven. “But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5)
Whatever day Jesus entered the world as a man was a blessed day. It was a day that would lead to hope, joy, and life for us all.
