Let a Practice of Godliness Shut Out a Practice of Sin
John Stott writes, “Sin and the child of God are incompatible. They may occasionally meet; they cannot live together in harmony.”
The apostle, John expresses the same idea. “No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God's seed abides in him, and he cannot keep on sinning because he has been born of God.” (1Jo 3:9)
Are you holding onto sinful practices, something more than an occasional stumble? God doesn’t want to see a settled practice of sin in his children.
Accept God’s help as you eliminate sinful practices. Let God’s seed abide in you. Let it germinate, grow, and bear good fruit in you. Let a settled practice of godly, loving practices and habits choke out the weeds of sin in you.
Nature abhors a vacuum. If you’re not presenting your body to God as a living sacrifice (Rom 12:1), Satan will certainly use you.
"When the unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, but finds none. Then it says, 'I will return to my house from which I came.' And when it comes, it finds the house empty, swept, and put in order. Then it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and dwell there, and the last state of that person is worse than the first. So also will it be with this evil generation." (Mat 12:43-45)
If you’re not deliberately doing good, you’ll find your way into mischief by one means or another. Jesus says that if you’re not working for him, you’re working against him. “Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.” (Mat 12:30)
Get busy for God. Take up your cross and follow Jesus. -Paul
