"Be Still and Know That I Am God"

According to Gallup World Poll, America is more stressed out and anxious than any other country in the world, second only to Greece.  Like Martha the sister of Mary and Lazarus, many of us are anxious and troubled about many things (Luk 10:41,42).  But, as Jesus told Martha, only one thing is necessary, calmly keeping our focus where Mary’s was, on Jesus.

In Psalm 46, one of the sons of Korah reminds us to be still and remember that God is in control of everything.  “The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah. Come, behold the works of the LORD, how he has brought desolations on the earth. He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the chariots with fire. "Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!" The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah.” (Psa 46:7-11)

Let's not join the fretting and hand-wrenching around us.  Let's be still, calm, and quiet.  Let's remember that God is God, the one in control of everything.  Let's trust and obey him.  Let's know that he is with us.  Let's keep our focus on him.  Let's be set apart from our anxious world and experience the peace of Christ that passes understanding (Phi 4:6,7). -Paul
